Editorial Roles and Responsibilities

Editors of the Journal of Food and Nutrition Science (JFNS) hold a pivotal role in guiding the journal’s academic direction, maintaining editorial integrity, and ensuring that the published research is scientifically sound, ethically responsible, and relevant to the field of food and nutrition.

Editors are charged with safeguarding the credibility and accuracy of the journal’s content. This includes:

  • Verifying that all published work meets high scientific and ethical standards
  • Taking swift action to address any concerns related to data reliability, plagiarism, or research misconduct
  • Issuing corrections, retractions, or clarifications when necessary to maintain trust in the scholarly record

All editorial decisions must reflect the journal’s mission and adhere to best practices as guided by JFNS policies and broader ethical frameworks such as those recommended by COPE.

Editors manage the peer review process to ensure it is:

  • Fair, objective, and free from bias
  • Timely and efficient
  • Transparent in its procedures and consistent in applying editorial standards

They are responsible for selecting expert reviewers, addressing conflicts of interest, and fostering respectful exchanges between authors and reviewers. Editors also play a key role in curating relevant content and identifying emerging themes in food science, nutrition, and public health.

Editors serve the needs of authors, reviewers, and readers by:

  • Providing clear editorial guidance and maintaining open communication
  • Evaluating manuscripts based on academic merit, without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or personal beliefs
  • Working collaboratively with the publisher to promote high-quality submissions
  • Discouraging unethical practices such as citation manipulation or data fabrication

Their role includes not only evaluating content but also supporting a positive, inclusive, and transparent publishing culture.

Editors make independent and evidence-based decisions regarding manuscript acceptance or rejection, often in consultation with peer reviewers or editorial board members. Editorial judgment must remain impartial and grounded in:

  • The scientific value of the research
  • The alignment with JFNS’s aims and scope
  • Ethical adherence and clarity of reporting

All submissions are treated with strict confidentiality, and details are shared only with individuals directly involved in the editorial and review process.

JFNS is published by ACAD-WISE, which partners with editors to support the journal’s operations and long-term goals. The publisher:

  • Provides robust editorial and production infrastructure
  • Facilitates global access through Open Access dissemination
  • Oversees the journal website, digital tools, and indexing

Together, the editorial team and publisher work to ensure that JFNS remains a trusted, innovative, and widely accessible platform for advancing the science of food and nutrition.
